Background
During her time in politics Lisa was a Front Bench Spokesperson on Defence, Brexit, and European and Foreign Affairs. At the height of the Brexit negotiations Lisa was party spokesperson on Brexit and a member of the Government’s Brexit Stakeholder forum. She also served as Chair of the Senate Brexit Committee. She was also a member of the Oireachtas Committee on European Affairs, Budgetary Oversight and Children and Youth Affairs. As Leader of the Senate Lisa had responsibility for the Government’s legislative program in the Upper House and worked across all Ministers and Government departments in the context of this role.
Lisa has engaged in international representative work on behalf of the Oireachtas/Irish Parliament as a member of the Organisation for Security and Co-Operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) sitting on the Political Affairs and Security Committee and as Vice Chair of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism. She also served on a number of election monitoring missions on behalf of the OSCE PA. Lisa was convenor of the Ireland/UK Parliamentary Friendship group and also engaged with the EU Commission and European Parliament as part of her representative work.
Lisa is a former member of the Irish Defence Forces Army Reserve having served for thirteen years and achieving the officer rank of Second Lieutenant. She is passionate about the Defence Forces and has a keen interest in Irish and EU Defence policy.
Prior to politics Lisa obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree B.Comm and a Postgraduate Law Degree LL.B from University of Galway and a Masters in Commercial Law LL.M from UCD. She went on to obtain a Barrister-at-Law Degree from King’s Inns and qualified as a Barrister, practising in Civil, Commercial and Criminal Law.
